Job Description

Central Connecticut State University’s Department of Design (Graphic/Information) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in the focusing on digital media beginning Fall 2014. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses; four-course teaching load is required per semester. Additional responsibilities include serving on departmental and university committees, advising students and engaging in scholarly and professional activities appropriate to the field and contribute actively and effectively to student growth, service, and scholarship. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body.

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal Degree (MFA) in Graphic Design, Visual Design or Culture, or a closely related discipline;
  • Ability to teach three or more of the following: Introductory Level Design, Graphic/Information Design, Advanced Design/Media Theory, Design Practice/Practicum, Typography, 3-D Design/Animation, Multimedia Design and Web Design/On-Line Media Culture;
  • Experience and comprehensive understanding of digital technologies in contemporary design practice; and,
  • Commitment to serving culturally, ethnically and linguistically diverse communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four years of teaching experience at the college level, including two-years teaching experience in the area of motion graphics, digital media, responsive design with HTML5 and CSS;
  • Record of departmental service, small business development, social media and on-line marketing strategies for creatives;
  • Proficiency involving open source content management systems, front end development and cross platform website design, and search engine optimization; and,
  • Experience in curatorial practices and exhibition design and planning.

The University is approximately 2 hours (by car) from both Boston and New York City.
